Vijay Kumar was born and brought up in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He got a degree in Metallurgical Engineering from GCE, Salem.A software engineer by profession, he quit his job to pursue his passion in cinema. He completed writing the screenplay for Uriyadi, after which he started a production house called Souvenir Productions to make the movie. He conducted acting workshops for debutantes for three months and then hired them.
